running an app on an iPhone iOS14 with Xcode 11.3.1

Hi everyone,

I want to know if I can use Xcode 11.3.1 when I run an app on an iPhone iOS14. Or maybe do I have to update Xcode to the newest(11.5) for running an app on iOS14?

Thank you in advance.

You need to match the Xcode version with the iOS Device version. The Xcode Support article documents the specific iOS version ranges that each version of Xcode supports. Generally, an older Xcode version can't communicate with a newer iOS version, as is the case here.

The prior suggestion in this thread of copying some files around is not a supported solution. Please upgrade Xcode to a version that works with the specific iOS version instead.

Yes you can. Everything you need to do is coping the folder name 14.0 from
Code Block
/Applications/Xcode-12-beta.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport

and paste it to

Code Block
/Applications/Xcode-11-3-1.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport

then plug your real device (running iOS 14) in and run it
Thank you dqhieu!
Didn't work for me
The best and easiest thing you can do is just publish your app in TestFlight. This way you can see what older build versions will look across different iOS versions, including the newer iOS 14.0.1
how to add simulator with iOS 14 in Xcode 11.0 ?
