Couldn't communicate with helper application

Within Preferences, under Accounts. When I click on the + sign and click on "Add Apple ID". I immediately get a message saying "Couldn't communicate with helper application". I've restarted xcode and restarted the OS. There don't seem to be any logs I can find in Console.

Help!

Keep trying - the backend seems to be dropping calls.

Same problem here, with Xcode 11, 12, 12 beta... Big Sur OS, happening weeks ago, re-installing Xcode and OS upgrade (beta-> release) didn't help. Any ideas???
