Starting to develop with iOS 4.3, device compaibility?

Hello,

I am new to the iOS development, using C++ on Mac OS X some years.

I like to develop apps using objective-c starting from my old X-Code on Snow Leopard (iOS 4.3). Is that forward compatible up to iOS 7+ and can I depoy such an application?

I like to test my apps with my iPhone 4S having an iOS 5 installed. Will be using Snow Leopard for this (latest X-Code version there) possible?

I have an external usb drive with an updated OS X (Marvericks). This will be my last resort, if I do not have any chance to use my Snow Leopard targeting iOS 4.3+ as a first start.

Thanks for any help,

Lothar

As a reminder, beginning June 1, 2015 app updates submitted to the App Store must include 64-bit support and be built with the iOS 8 SDK. To enable 64-bit in your project, we recommend using the default Xcode build setting of “Standard architectures” to build a single binary with both 32-bit and 64-bit code. For more information, read the 64-Bit Transition Guide for Cocoa Touch.

Thank you,

I figured out that I am unable to use my iPhone 4S with my Snow Leopard based developer box. Thus I am actually using Yosemite and iOS 8.2.
