Getting back into development question

I have been developing software since I was 14 I am 49 now. In 2012 after broken back broken neck crushed legs and brain surgery I took some time off.

This is my first night on these forums.

I am in the process of getting the hard ware so I can start hobby development on Apple and Android. For the development process I have 2 Iphone 6s 64GB that are brand new never used. By 1 Dec I will have 2 Apple Watch series 3 GPS + Cellular watches. I will also be looking for 2 Ipads and will have them by the end of December depending on the walmart black friday sales.

I am on ebay and the internet looking for a MacBook pro. My goal with that is to get one 2012 or newer as it can run the latest IOS and would be good just for development. I am thinking the 13 inch size monitor will be fine as I can simply plug a monitor in and I will be able to see the screen just fine.

My question is should I focus on any other hard ware?

The year of the type of Macbook Pro I am looking for if my research is correct it will run catalina which for development will be fine for at least the next two years. Am I right in that research?

But also have a look at 15" (with the new 16" now available, could find good bargains). And larger screen size (even though most of time you'll have a second monitor) is really better for XCode.

I would look for a newer hardware than 2012, unless you get it at a very very low price (but what about memory ?)

What's important too is to have enough memory: RAM at least 16 GB, disk at least 1 TB.

OK so look for something 2013 or newer. I was thinking 2012 13 inch screen as they are less then $400.00

>they are less then $400.00

Reason why is no one sees those doorstops as having any real value when it comes to today's IDE.

What kind of apps do you expect to make? You must have some specifics in mind if you've already picked out devices...if you can talk about your requirements/ideas, perhaps someone can help you do more than shop your budget.

And really, when you look at it, look at memory and storage.

They are even more important than clock speed.

A 400$ with 8 GB and 250 GB would not be interesting for you, nearly useless as recent XCode require huge resource.
