Xcode: not enough disk space even with 75GB free

Hello everybody!

I've just updated to Mojave and am experiencing some issues getting my development back on track. I think several issues I have are to do with not having the latest xcode (e.g. git integration in visual studio code)

No problem, I go to the app store and try to download xcode. But I get this:

But I seem to have plenty of space:

One possibility that comes to mind is this purgeable space:

But 1- I can't do anything about it and 2- It shouldn't be a problem in theory

Any ideas?

Don't forget to delete DerivedData from any solutions you have. Those are pigs.

The space needed for Xcode 11.3 is between 24-26GB. Verified just now by deleting files incrementally.

This information that Xcode requires 24-26gb is very accurate.

Outdated maybe, but deleting those, worked for me:

~/Library/Caches/com.applestore.appstore
~/Library/Caches/storeaccount
~/Library/Caches/storeassets
~/Library/Caches/storedownload
~/Library/Caches/storeinappd
My Mac was registered for the Beta Mac OS program.
After removing the certificate I could unpack Xcode as if by magic.
Before that I could not do anything with about 60 gb free disk space.
I had the same problem with Xcode12beta_3.xip. Basically, you just need to play around with it. Free up some space, turn off Time Machine's Back Up Automatically option, restart your Mac, move the XIP file from the Downloads folder to another folder, and then back to the Downloads folder, and then expand it.
I have Docker Desktop installed and found that Xcode wouldn't update until I reduced the Disk image size in Preferences -> Resources, despite having 35GB free and Docker only actually using 2.3GB.

I discovered this after looking in Storage Management where it was suggesting Docker was using 60GB but only 2.3GB on disk.

Best way is to get an external SSD, format it as a MacOS Filesystem and then install Xcode. In this way, you can save tons of space and get the same smooth experience as you would with your Mac.
