can I distribute non-AppStore macOS app using xcode 8?
Hi, We have an macOS app last released with XCode 8.2 running Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan). The app was distributed as dmg file (signed using a Developer Id) on our website. Recently, we made some small changes to the app and we could build the dmg package using XCode 8.2 on Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra). The package was signed with a current Developer Id Application certificate. However, when we try to install the dmg package, it is giving an an error of "app is damaged and can’t be opened. You should eject the disk image." So my first question is: is it still possible to distribute macOS app built using xcode 8.2 for non-app store distribution? The app is scheduled to phase out and the changes we're making are meant to support the existing users, so we don't really want to invest too much time and effort to upgrade the code base to xcode 12. Really appreciate any help on this as I've not been up to date with Mac App development for some time.
