+1 this is very annoying. Many of our employees work in other countries and use their personal devices and Apple IDs. The only practical solution I see for foreign BYOD employees is on the public app store.

This is not correct. B2B apps update automatically and can also be updated manually through the updates section of the app store.
Well this is frustrating. Our application relies on local network access and we'll have to do some hacks to find if the user has denied access as well.
Definitely harmful to user experience for my apps, with or without this hack.

Just open the Storyboard as XML and delete the tabBarAppearance element if it is standard with no child elements and you're targeting iOS < 13:
