Can an app tell if it is the default, and/or prompt the user to set it if not?

What will the default app setting flow be for users? Will default setting be in the “Settings” app or can we include prompts in our apps for users to set the app as default?
Does or will Apple have any mechanism to trigger a prompt to users to change/set default apps outside of the "Settings" app?
