Made the huge mistake of updating MacOS to 12.6, Xcode to 14, iPhone 11 to 16.0 and iPad Pro 3rd Gen 11" to 15.7. Before upgrading everything worked fine, now Xcode refuses to work with either device… iPad (Failed to prepare device for development) iPhone (unsupported family)

There is currently a compatibility issue with Xcode 14 and iOS 15.7. Please see this other thread.
